MOONFLOWER

Montreal-based dancer Axelle Munezero, originally from Burundi, presents Moonflower, a deeply personal solo accompanied by live music. Rooted in her experiences growing up amidst civil war, the performance explores resilience, healing, and hope, using dance as a transformative path to peace and self-discovery.

Through intricate movement and raw emotion, Axelle invites audiences into a journey where beauty and pain coexist. The metaphor of a flower—delicate yet resilient—captures the tension between fragility and strength, reflecting the universal pursuit of healing and connection.

Moonflower is more than dance; it is a celebration of care, wonder, and the power of art to inspire empathy and hope, offering a space for reflection and shared humanity.

TOURMENT

Tourment is a captivating exploration of transformation and self-discovery, inspired by the expressive street dance form of whacking. Rooted in the vibrant history of whacking—born in the 1970s Los Angeles LGBTQ+ community and influenced by silent film, Hollywood glamour, and bold theatricality—the piece navigates how stepping into a character transforms us, and how we transform them.

Choreographed by Axelle Munezero, the work combines intricate movement, emotional depth, and theatrical nuance, inviting audiences to witness the tension between self-giving and metamorphosis. Tourment unfolds a journey between joy and struggle, reflecting on identity, expression, and human resilience.
