Nemesis takes place in a world where there is no order, no laws and no history. After an era of great darkness and destruction, everything needs to be build again. A group of women manages to survive in this hostile environment by creating their own identity, language and their own way to defend themselves. Inspired by the ancient art of waacking, the strength of these warriors rests on the power of their arms and the serenity of their mind. By uniting control, velocity and precision, they cast powerful attack on their enemies to remain the strongest race alive. Although they are fierce and dauntless, they are still at the mercy of their inner demon.

What if dancers were to take control of a live music and light composition? This is the core of Temporalité expressive, a collaboration between Axelle, urban dance choreographer, and Marc-André, audio-visual artist. At the origin of this project, there are algorithms capable of generating electronic sounds, bringing three variables into play: muscular tension, body position in space, and movement velocity. Out of this exploration of sound and movement springs a new kind of mathematical language, one that is deeply organic. This interactivity is almost magical. As we watch, previously invisible energies become perceptible and newly formed relationships materialize.
Creative Process
The creative universe is around urban dance and electronic music mixed with the universe of technological interactivity. Indeed, the movements of the dancers directly control the music during the piece. It is on this basis that Oscille, Expressive Temporality, was born, the choreography is composed and expressed musically on stage. The three performers were chosen for their diversity and mastery of the musicality in the movement in order to enrich the melodic research.

"And if you could hear the sound of the moving body, hear the vibration of our energy? "
Oscillate is an interactive dance creation; the dancer's movements are captured by accelerometers and transmitted to a Max / MSP patch that produces in real-time all the sounds during the piece.
This is the result of the collaboration between Axelle Munezero (choreographer) and Marc-André Cossette (specialist in interactive media).
All throughout the performance, the dancers interpret the different textures found in electronic music. Sometimes the sounds are generated by the dancers, sometimes they interact with some parameter of a soundtrack : the movements are sensed by accelerometers and sent by a wireless network. Once rendered the data from the accelerometers are processed to extract the speed and direction of movement. Then, the information is used to operate the oscillator frequency synthesizers, volume, and affect parameters such as delay, reverb, fascing, etc.
The dancers have a contemporary dance and a urban dance background, in order to in-body the textures in electronic music, to interact with each other, with the public, with sound and also with the lights, all this in " LIVE ".

We just had to remodel waacking, an extravagent and powerful urban dance form in its own right, to make it into an « art object ». The final form : sculptural and linear shapes, a more complex musicality, multi-rhythmic bodies, sharply contrasting textures. We manipulate the rules to create an alternative universe, and so to reconsider waacking from another angle. Enlightening.

The show was first created to raise money for an orphanage in Burundi at an event which took place October 19, 2013 in Montreal.
Museke is the name of an orphanage I had the chance to visit during the summer of 2013 in Burundi, my country of origin. This trip plunged me right back into my history and my culture, reminded me of my roots and gave me a better acceptance of who I am now.
This piece traveled all the way to Morocco to a festival in Taroudant.

"I discovered the lamp Fire Fly, a laser lamp that projects many points over a large area.So I decided to begin an exploration with this tool. What I found interesting in using a laser instead of an ordinary light are the characteristics of it : the laser emits a very intense light are the characteristics of it is that the laser emits a very intense light, the beam is unidirectional. With those features I have made several explorations with my dancers. "
